Swedish Council for Palliative Care

Swedish Council for Palliative Care is an umbrella organisation to enhance and support development of palliative care in Sweden. The council, created 2004, consists of 13 professional palliative care national organisations and networks and defines palliative care according to the WHO definition.

The Council works with identifying neglected areas of palliative care in Sweden as well as initiating and suggesting improvements and is actively involved in the creating and updating of the national directory for palliative care. Contacts and comments to and with authorities as well as being a body for consideration are activities within the mission of the Swedish Council for Palliative Care.

The support for developing standards for palliative care in Sweden and cooperating with international organisations with similar aims in Europe as well as in the rest of the world is another important aim for the council.
